7th Grade Science
Interdisciplinary Project
At the end of October 2022, 7th graders researched Question 1 on the November 8th Massachusetts Ballot in their ELA, Social Studies, Math, and Science classrooms. In this interdisciplinary project scholars learned about taxes and voting, examined pros and cons of each side through articles and debates, and analyzed graphs and data about funding. Scholars put together what they learned throughout the week in a poster presentation incorporating paper circuits. Adding the paper circuits directly connected scholars learning about circuits in the physics unit to a real world application. Paper circuit resources are from Chibitronics.
Science Schedule:
Monday: Types of energy, electrical energy and introduction to paper circuits
Tuesday: Gathering evidence: Transportation funding, Interpreting graphs - what does the graph tell us, how can graphs be manipulated to show different things
Wednesday - Friday: Make group’s paper circuit poster using evidence from all classes to show/pros/cons of Question 1.
Connection to Science Standards:
Science Standards:
I can make a clear, understandable claim based on relevant, sufficient, and reliable evidence that is relevant to the question.
I can provide strong, logical reasoning based on my scientific knowledge to link the claim and evidence.
I can independently communicate information orally and in written forms in a way that is clear and coherent, and in which the organization, style and vocabulary are appropriate for the purpose and intended audience.
I can independently make sense of data in tables and graphs by recognizing and explaining patterns and relationships.
I can develop (and/or revise) and explain a model to show the relationship among variable.
